Surgery Day

The date of the surgery was actually 10 days after the day that she had the accident. I was thankful that my Mom was able to come and help us because otherwise it would have been a nightmare. Mom was home with Katherine, Jacob and James (as well as the others in school) to help make their routines a little more normal. I on the other hand was at the hospital with Amanda bright and early (6:45AM). We got her checked in and settled. The doctor came in and actually signed her leg so they would know which one was to be operated on. The nurses came in and took her and the waiting began. We knew that she would have to stay overnight as the doctor wanted her to have some IV antibiotics. An hour after she was taken from me, Dr. B comes in and tells me that she has 1 screw and one washer in her ankle now. The surgery was good and they were able to fix it. She did really well and was a trooper.

This is a great picture what what her leg looked like after she came out of surgery. They used the iodine to clean it....her toes were the same color but you can't tell in the picture as well because there is no skin to compare it too.

This is the new cast that she came out of surgery with. We aren't sure how long she will have to wear it, but it is smaller than the boot and her pants will actually fit over it.

These tulips were actually provided by my Uncle Kelly and were intended for my Grandmother for Valentine's Day. But since she went home early, Mom brought them to share with Amanda. (Thanks Uncle Kelly, they are gorgeous!)
